Seasonal School : From Imbolc to Beltane

Feb3- May 2, 2025

All classes will be recorded and uploaded to an easy-to-access online portal.

Join us for another seasonal school from Feb 3-May 2, from Imbolc to Beltane, the first stirrings of spring into the beginning of summer on the Celtic wheel of the year, early May.

This seasonal school will support and stabilize the quickening time when the creative energy slowly rises and forms into our new beginnings—dreaming and creating our vision info form.

I have gathered my favourite trusted practices and created a three-month experience to support folks looking for structure in their intention of living intimately and staying close to themselves. This offering is intentionally structured to provide a rhythm and routine that allows for a sturdy container without feeling heavy or intense while being robust enough to encourage intimacy with life. It provides a consistent place to drop in and learn through direct embodied experience.

All these practices will help us stay close to the whispers from the soul and the deep self's yearnings. To stay close to the longings of the heart. Knowing what these longings are requires a devotion to our inner life. A devotion to listening and, eventually, loving all the messy and magnificent aspects of who we are. These practices center around holding ourselves with gentleness, inclusion, care, and curiosity. They are the practices that I turn to again and again for refuge and resilience, some of them for over 20 years. This is not a typical school; it's a school of gnosis, of self-knowing through direct experiential insight.  Forging these inner resources is an essential life skill, given all we face collectively in the polycrisis. It is how we nourish the soulful tethers to an embodied life.

Meditation

Three guided embodied meditations per week. We'll start by soothing our nervous system, grounding into the earth, and connecting with our three centers of intelligence before moving into a mindfulness practice of exploring our breath, sensation, and sound in a warm inclusive way.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 7- 7:20am PST

Writing Cirlce

The writing circle is a practice of staying close, showing up, and clearing the space to see what comes through. We begin with a brief meditation to help gather our attention. I'll then read a short quote, poem or archetype from the tarot or the planets. We'll then engage with a stream-of-consciousness writing practice.

*No writing experience necessary

Thursdays at 11 am-12:15 pm PST

Monthly meetings

Each month, we'll gather to go over the themes we'll explore for the month ahead. This hour-long gathering will be somewhat in the theme of a dharma talk, going over the "why" of what we're practicing to illuminate and inspire. These gatherings will offer place-based outdoor practices, creative projects, and further readings.
Tuesdays  Feb 4, March 4 , April 1, 11am-12pm

At the end of each month, we'll gather for an "ask me anything" session, a time to share insights and ask questions about how the practice is evolving.

Fall Retreat, Gabriola Island

Fall Retreat 2024

November 8-11/2024

The Haven, Gabriola Island, BC

There is something magical about getting quiet and turning inward. Creating a sacred space where we can turn away from our worldly roles and remember who we are beyond our busyness and to-do lists. Getting quiet and still enough to hear the inner voice, feel the sensations of the body speaking to us, and have time with symbols and images from our dreams. We move our bodies slowly, yield to the earth, walk in the trees, sit next to the fire, practice with our community, and remember what is ancient and trustworthy: our innate wisdom and deep compassion. To ask the more profound questions, what needs more care, inclusion, and love? Retreating allows us to return to our lives with fresh eyes and a renewed commitment to live from our depths, a bit more inner space, and the capacity to meet human complexity and precarity.

Join us for a residential silent retreat on Vancouver Island. Through meditation, yin yoga, writing, and dreamwork, place-based practices we explore deep inner listening, leaning into the mystery, and remembering our innate stability, courage, and care.

Meditation

We'll start by soothing our nervous system, grounding into the earth, and connecting with our three centers of intelligence before moving into a mindfulness practice of exploring our breath, sensation, and sound in a warm, inclusive way.

Writing

I'll then read a short quote, poem, or archetype from the tarot. We'll engage with a stream-of-consciousness writing practice.

*No writing experience necessary

Embodiment practice

We will practice gentle qi-gong movement that encourages, opens, and nourishes the energetic channels of the physical body and long-held, yin yoga-style postures. Movement practices are essential to helping us harvest and yield the gifts of our deep inquiry work and driving our aspirations into physical form.

Embodied dreamwork

We will work with our deep imagination to explore and receive medicine from our dreams, a creative and gentle way to experience our inner realms and access our innate wisdom.

Fall Seasonal School

Seasonal School

Fall 2024

Sept 23- Dec 20, 2024

All classes will be recorded and uploaded to an easy-to-access online portal.

We're still in the time of plenty, harvest, long warm days, and sun-kissed cheeks. But in a few weeks, the quality of light will begin to change, and so will the feel in the air. We'll need to grab another layer in the morning, and evenings will start to cool.

We are moving toward the season of descent, where the energies of the earth are naturally drawn down and in. To support the inevitable time of turning inward, I am offering a seasonal school that will take us from the fall equinox to the winter solstice, the darkest day of the year. This is not a typical school; it's a school of gnosis, of self-knowing through direct experiential insight.

I have gathered my favourite trusted practices and created a three-month experience to support folks who are looking for some structure in their intention of living intimately. To stay close. This offering is intentionally structured to provide a rhythm and routine that allows for a sturdy container without feeling heavy or intense while being robust enough that it encourages intimacy with life. It provides a consistent place to drop in and learn through direct embodied experience—a way of brightening our inner light in the darkening season.

All these practices will help us stay close to the whispers from the soul and the deep self's yearnings. To stay close to the longings of the heart. Even knowing what these longings are requires devotion to our inner life. We need a devotion to listening and, eventually, loving all the messy and magnificent aspects of who we are. All of the practices shared in the seasonal school center around holding ourselves with gentleness, inclusion, care, and curiosity. They are the practices that I turn to again and again for refuge and resilience, some of them for over 20 years.

I trust the season of descent and what it asks of us, just as I trust the sun to rise again in the morning. It's possible to make the journey exciting and engaging. Creative and life-giving. Forging these inner resources is an essential life skill, given all we face collectively in the polycrisis. It is how we nourish the soulful tethers to an embodied life.

In my experience, a daily ritual of tending to my inner life and renewing my commitment to my depths is essential for navigating the complexity and precarity of this wild life.

For the month of August, I'll be offering a guided morning embodied meditation practice. We'll start by soothing our nervous system, grounding into the earth, and connecting with our three centers of intelligence before moving into a mindfulness practice of exploring our breath, sensation, and sound in a warm inclusive way. We'll greet our day with the intention to meet ourselves as we are: tired, grumpy, dull, achy, joyful, inspired, all is welcome. We'll receive the intrinsic support of meditation to help loosen the grip of striving and perfection, opening to what's true and in need of our care.

Dates:
We will be sitting every Monday, Wednesday. and Friday morning and two Sundays of the month (Aug 13 & 27).

Times:
 7am PST Monday and Friday

7:30 am Wednesday

Sliding scale:

Once payment is made a zoom link and introduction video will be sent. Mountain, Ocean, Sky: an embodied study of the three centers of intelligence

  • Google Calendar ICS

Body like the mountain,

heart like the ocean,

mind like the sky.

- Dogen

Those of you who have worked with me over the years know that I anchor my practice around the three centers of intelligence. Learning to inhabit and embody these centers is an ever growing capacity and inner resource that I cultivate daily. Each center holds within it physical, energetic and emotional gifts and acts as a doorway to greater depth, insight and self knowing.

I have been delighted to discover the cross cultural acknowledgment of the three centers. Known in the Daoist tradition as the Dantiens, within the psycho-spiritual map of the Enneagram they are known as the centers of intelligence, and in my own Celtic lineage they are referred to as the three cauldrons.
I am excited to teach about these centers in greater depth through a 4 week experiential course. Through theory, practice, and creative exploration calling on symbol, image and metaphor participants will forge their own unique relationship with their three centers. Opening to ways of knowing and being in the world that support our creative and relational capacities.

Included in the price of the course is one hour long mentorship session with me to support your integration of the teachings.

Week 1

The power of three.
Thursday May 19

7-8:30pm

An introduction to the three centers giving context and perspective along with the overlapping physical, energetic and emotional teachings within each center. Mapping the connections between the nervous system, subtle body and emotional body to bring more depth of understanding during our course.

Week 2

Body like the mountain: the belly center
Thursday May 26

7-8:30pm

Exploring themes, images and metaphors related to this center.
The element of earth, boundaries, somatic intelligence, the sacred NO and full belly YES. Instinctual energy, sexual and creative energy and our relationship to the belly/ lower body.
Discussion, journaling and meditative practice in each session.

Week 3

Heart like the ocean: the heart center
Thursday June 2

7-8:30pm

Exploring themes, images and metaphors related to this center.
The element of water. Grief, love, identity and image and relational intelligence.
How can we be with the immensity of the human experience, how do we nourish the heart? Discussion, journaling and meditative practice in each session.

Week 4
Mind like the sky: the head center

Thursday June 9

7-8:30pm

Exploring themes, images and metaphors related to this center.
Mind training, clairvoyance, claircognizance, direct knowing. How to hold complexity, nuance, and multiplicity. Discussion, journaling and meditative practice in each session.

Requirements

This will be a very small and intimate group of 4-6 people maximum. The classes will be 90 minutes in length and will be held over zoom. You will have access to the course for 1 month after the course completes. Due to the intimate nature of the group I'm asking for live attendance to the calls and cameras on. Of course, life happens and we sometimes must unexpectedly shift but I ask that you come with the intention and commitment to attend all 4 sessions live.Only folks who have previously worked with me in some capacity are able to register and I also ask that you are fairly resourced with support. This course is not appropriate if you are currently in crisis and in immense overwhelm. Participants must feel capable of doing inner reflection and practice. I also ask that participants commit to 10 minutes of practice daily while in the course and participate in the creative ritual homework which is an additional 20-30 minutes per week. This course is not a substitute for therapy and so I would like you to have a support system in place beyond this group.
Please email me at info@carlyforest.com if you're interested in joining. Please do not send an e-transfer until you've received acceptance into the course from me. Thank you!

Investment

Sliding scale $450-$520.
Please inquire with me if you need payment plan options.
Refunds will be possible until May 5th, minus a $20 administrative fee. Refunds after May 5th only if someone is able to fill your spot and with a $20 administration fee. Due to the intimate nature of the group, refunds will not be possible once the course has begun.

"What is it that we've readily considered the location of our intelligence? This might seem like a silly question, because it's easy to recall the definition we've been taught since grade school; but let's revisit this. Instead of defining intelligence as something located solely in our brains, in that grey matter that thinks, sitting on top of our heads, let's consider this definition:
A masterful controller of a nervous system; a network of neurons that captures and processes information(as some kind of meaningful data), and one that intricately interacts with energy.

With this working definition, our consideration expands. While we know well of the processing center that's located in our heads, our mental capacities, two other such processing networks- networks of neurons- have been found to exist and are located in the body. One of these networks is in and around the heart. And the other of these neuronal networks is located in the intestines."

The Luminous Enneagram: a 9-week course exploring the foundations of the Enneagram.

The Luminous Enneagram: a 9-week course exploring the foundations of the Enneagram.

  • Google Calendar ICS

Sometimes, despite our best efforts and intentions and regardless of how much we practice, we find ourselves coming up against patterns of behaviour and relating that keep us at a distance from ourselves and those we’re in relationship with. In times of increased uncertainty and fear, such as the one we’re collectively experiencing right now, these patterns can block the tenderness and connection that we need more than ever before. The Enneagram offers a clear path through the confusion.

The Enneagram is 9-sided symbol used to represent the spectrum of possible personality types. This subtle and nuanced system offers a powerful map of the ways in which our unique personality can both enrich and hinder our personal and relational evolution.

This 9-week course will focus on the foundations of the Enneagram and how to use this map to deepen your understanding of yourself and your patterns of behaviour. During our time together, we will explore the Enneagram both theoretically and experientially through writing, inquiry work and meditative practice. You’ll receive an Enneagram manual PDF to follow along with during the course.

Class times: There will be a 90 min pre-recorded class each week and a live discussion session on Zoom Tuesdays from 11am -12:00pm and Tuesday from 11am - 12pm PST. Discussion sessions are focused gatherings to explore any questions that are coming up about the material. Sessions are optional and you’ll receive a recording of each.

Sliding scale: $300–$400

We'll welcome our day with the intention to meet ourselves as we are. Tired, grumpy, dull, achy, joyful, inspired, all is welcome. Loosening the grip of striving and perfection. Opening to whats true and in need of our care.

20 minutes of embodied meditation every Monday in February, offered by donation with love.

I realize it can feel odd or confusing to offer a donation instead of a set cost for the practice. Going forward, I will be occasionally offering guided meditations by donation. If the practice has value to you, you offer a donation that reflects that value and your current financial circumstances. It's common in the Buddhist tradition to offer Dana for the teachings. I appreciate dharma teacher Phillip Moffitt's explanation of giving Dana.

Dana (generosity) Practice
In the Buddhist tradition, the teachings are given freely because they are considered priceless; in the Buddhist tradition we also practice dana, or generosity, by making monetary offerings for the teachings. Dana is not payment for goods or services rendered; it is given from the heart. Your generosity is a gift that supports not just the teachers, but also the Sangha, the larger Dharma community, and your own practice.

-Phillip Moffitt

Donations can be made through e transfer or paypal to info@carlyforest.com

The zoom room will be open at 6:50am PST and the sit will start 7am PST.

Deepening the Marriage of Mystery and Meaning: A yoga and personal inquiry retreat with Sarana Miller and Carly Forest.

Our yoga and mediation practice offers us the possibility to work intentionally and creatively with any obstacle that arrises in our lives. Practice refines and enhances our sensitivity to the subtle inner, unseen realms. These realms offer an opportunity to sense mystery and find deeper meaning. Online Yin Yoga Teacher Training: Foundations of Yin Yoga

  • Google Calendar ICS

To teach a Yin class that is both safe and informative, a foundational understanding of the purpose and method of Yin is essential. Looking more deeply, however, we see that the unique nature of this subtle practice presents teachers with an opportunity to skillfully guide students through potent and potentially transformative experiences. Training in how to do so with awareness and compassion is key to developing appropriate capabilities as a teacher.

In weaving together insight and experience from a decade of mindfulness training, an immersion in spiritual psychology, and formal education in the energetic anatomy of the subtle body, Carly offers her teacher trainees a deeply holistic approach to leading mindful Yin classes. This focused 15-hour training, open to teachers as well as dedicated practitioners, explores the following:

• Anatomy
• Meridian theory
• Sequencing
• Safety in postures
• Basic mindfulness theory
• The role of the teacher in the community
• The ethics of teaching

Intro to the Enneagram: A 9-week course exploring the foundations of the Enneagram

Class times: There will be a live Zoom class Thursdays from 11am -12:30pm and Tuesday from 11am - 12pm will be a live discussion session on Zoom. Discussion sessions are focused gatherings to explore any questions that are coming up about the material. Sessions are optional and you’ll receive a recording of each.

Sliding scale: $290–$325 (USD/CAD) Please pay in the currency of the country in which you reside.

To register, send an e-transfer or PayPal payment to info@carlyforest.com and be sure to include your email address.

Monthly Soul Circle

  • Google Calendar ICS

As the light begins to wane, I’m called to offer a place of refuge, a Circle where we can come together twice per month to do soul work. The Circle will open in October and consist of inquiry work related to dreaming and the realm of soul, meditative practice, and a ritual. This could be a good fit for if:

*you long to connect with a circle of people committed to exploring the soul,

*you have an interest in dreams, writing, meditation, the subtle body and embodiment practice

*you have a desire to deepen your connection with nature and be of service during this time of great uncertainty on our planet,

*you are looking for some structure to help you stay connected to your deepest intentions.

You’re welcome to register for all three months, or just one or two months. There is space for a maximum of 12 people, and preregistration is required. Please read on if you’re interested.

“By soul I mean the vital, mysterious, and wild core of our individual selves, and essence unique to each person, qualities found in layers of the self much deeper than our personalities. By spirit I mean the single, great and eternal mystery that permeates and animates everything in the universe and yet transcends all. Ultimately, each soul exists as an agent for spirit. The concept of soul embraces the essence of our particular individuality. This individuality reflects our unique and deepest personal characteristics, the core enduring qualities that define our personhood, the true self, the real me. Soul is what is most wild and natural within us.Soul embraces and calls us toward what is most unique in us. Spirit encompasses and draws us toward what is most universal and shared.”– From Soulcraft by Bill Plotkin

Monthly Soul Circle

Bringing our luminous nature into daily life is no small task given the myriad distractions and duties we’re pulled into each day. Our work is not to transcend the messiness of our daily duties and difficulties, but rather to embrace and infuse our lives with the fullness of our soul. Living our days with a greater sense of meaning and intention requires daily devotion and dedication to our deeper nature along with support, reminders and resources to help us we when we feel adrift.

This Soul Circle was born out of the desire to deepen into soul work with more consistency, to stay awake and willing to engage with the full spectrum of our lives and with the predicaments we face on the planet at this time.

The first Circle of each month will focus on dream work, because dream work is soul work – a doorway into our wisdom nature. I will teach a method to work with your dreams so you can enter into deeper relationship with their symbols, images and metaphors that come as teachers. Working with the unseen realm strengthens nourishes and informs our relationship to the realm of form.

We will build on this exploration in the second gathering while adding a layer of ritual to help us navigate our entry into the dark season and the gifts and challenges of this time of year. You can think of this Circle as regular mini-retreat designed to help you navigate the mysterious realm of your unique soul and deepen your trust and fortitude to both embrace and co-create your life.

October Circle: Sunday, October 11th and 25th: 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. PST

November Circle: Sunday, November 15th and 29th 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. PST

December Circle: Sunday, December 6th and 20th: 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. PST

All gatherings will take place on Zoom.

The cost is $80 per month. Please pay in the currency of the country in which you reside.
